Shanice 于 1973 年 5 月 14 日出生于美国匹兹堡，在父母离婚之后，就跟着母亲搬到了洛杉矶。8 岁左右的时候，她就已经开始配唱一些广告歌曲了，到了 14 岁的时候也为 A&M 唱片公司灌录一些歌曲，而且还有不错的成绩。 Shanice 的声音成熟，富有力量而且浑厚，在舞台上有很大的吸引力，果然在 1990 年跳槽到著名的黑人音乐厂牌 Motown 唱片公司之后，成绩更是亮眼，此时推出的专辑《Inner Child》，其中一首《I Love Your Smile》成为当年最热门的流行歌曲之一。而翻唱老歌的 Lovin' You，更是获得了比 Minnie Riperton 的原唱版本更高的知名度。
